Sneak Peek at Back to School Creative Teaching Press Goodies!!

Creative Teaching Press has invited me to sneak peek some of their goodies and I could NOT be more excited to share some of the amazing things I have found!

One thing that I am incredibly excited about is......
GNOMe!!!!

How cute is this! Makes is SO kid friendly and it will be a hit bulletin board for next year.

And my other sneak peak that I know everyone is going to go nuts over this year is....
The chalkboard posters are to die for!!!! They have several of them.
It was very difficult picking just one, which means I'll probably just load up in July for more!

Vicky has been blogging for almost two years over at Teaching and Much Moore (formerly known as Traditions, Laughter, and Happily Ever After)!  She also recently became of one the 21 bloggers over at Primary Chalkboard

"I am passionate about teaching reading and phonics."

"flippity.net- make online flashcards for your kids with self check answers on the back. You can add to a class website/blog for extra practice at home."

"Ask for help and be sure to have a balance in your life."

"I am hoping to take on some presentations/in service type roles in my district and even in my area hopefully."
-Vicky, I'll come to San Diego to listen to you talk!!-

"Mystery Person. Instead of just mystery walker. The mystery kid needs to behave all day, just not in line."

5 For Friday! [April 25]

It's that time again! Friday Review!
Here are five great things from my week!

[ONE]

We "planted" our seeds today.
The students predicted whether or not these lima beans would grow in a wet paper towel. Many of them predicting that they wouldn't because they need soil and nutrients. Can't wait to shock them and show them this will do the trick.

SO easy to do in your class!
Materials:
Paper Towels
Lima Beans
Clear Cups

Take one paper towel and wrap it around the edge of the cup.
Take a paper towel, wad it up, and stick it in the middle to hold the outside in place.
Stick your lima beans in the side!

Here are the materials laid out of the kids to make their own.

Then, they had to draw what they did, label it, write about what I gave to them, and what they predicted might happen.

[TWO]

This was supposed to be my #widn for Instagram this week and forgot!
So I saved it for 5FF!
Party in Primary's Amber and Webster's Little Dictionary's Mackenzie joined me in an after school date to Jimmy John's. We carpool every chance we get! Funny story, actually. We drove all the way home, then decided we wanted to keep hanging out, so we turned around and went back out for Jimmy Johns. It's really nice having buddies at work!

[THREE]

We just started our four week fairy tales unit.
This week, we are focusing on The Three Little Pigs and let me tell you.... Faith Wheeler has fairy tale packs that make my life SO much easier!
We read different versions of the fairy tales every day, discuss, compare, analyze. Then they do a fun little activity involving the story's characters and plot!

Check out her pack here!

GoNoodle Brain Breaks

This is absolutely genius.
I am loving GoNoodle right now for my darling first graders.

I'm sporting my GoNoodle shirt that they sent to me!

GoNoodle is a new free website that keeps kiddos moving!
You can sign up tonight and get started tomorrow. And trust me, your kids will be begging for more brain breaks! For some reason, several of my students call them "Power Breaks" and that has stuck with the students... So now they just ask for "Power Breaks" and I don't even correct them!

When I notice my kiddos have been sitting for a while or working so hard, I make sure to give them a 2-3 minute brain break to get them back on task. I've seen a great amount of focus from them at the end of the day, which is usually my hardest time with them. ESPECIALLY at this time in the year!

First, you start by picking your classroom mascot!
This mascot will grow with your class as they do more and more brain breaks.
They love watching the meter go up!

We picked Oogles. Here he is at level 1.

We are currently at level 4... Here is an update.

Here is Oogle's full life growth. Can't wait to get him fully grown!!
I have to remind the kids every time not to scream when he comes out of the "Transmogrifier".

Here is the screen you'll see when you first go in.
The bar on the right fills up as you do more and more brain breaks.

You'll have a library of videos and activities to choose from.
This is wonderful for active kiddos or just young ones who need to move!

Calm breathing games, traveling around your state.

Doing yoga for little ones!

And the favorite.... HAPPY!!

Here are my darlings in action!

OOooh, patiently waiting their very FIRST GoNoodle! They had no idea what to expect.
Here is Zach pondering what this loading blob was!
