Early Finishers

I don't know about you, but I have a huge gap of achievement in my classroom.
I have some second graders who are reading at a kindergarten level and some reading at a third grade level. Whenever we do our activities for math or reading, I always have several students finish in five minutes. I will challenge them to add details or write their own. If they still get finished with the challenge I give them, then they have an option...

They may...
1. Coach a friend who is struggling (without giving answers)
2. Use the Early Finishers wall strips

How to make your own:
-Pocket Envelopes are from Creative Teaching Press
-Owls are clip art from Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Designs on TPT
-Assignment slips are just a word document

These are the jumbo sized library pockets. They have the smaller ones, but when I ordered the bigger ones, I knew I wanted something that I could put paper in! These worked out perfectly.

Each envelope is separated into different subjects. Let's take a look at math!

I wrote down tasks that are easy for them to complete without materials or limited materials.
-Math journals
-White boards
-Flash cards
Create an Early Finishers bucket if any of your tasks require materials. I would suggest putting it right next to the early finishers stuff so they aren't interrupting you during your teaching and conferencing.

Then, I ventured over to Pinterest to look fore more ideas to share with you guys on early finishers!
Check these fabulous ideas!

  1. I am so glad I am not the only one with that type of class this year!! I have some friends that can barely read, and others who came in reading chapter books. The gulf is just as wide in math. I like the idea of the wall pockets! Thanks for sharing.

  2. I would love your task cards for my own classroom! Are you selling them or sharing them?

  3. Your class sounds just like mine!! Thank you for your ideas as I am struggling too.....

  4. I would also love a copy!! I can't keep my early finishers busy enough!
