Small Group Ideas

Here we are again!
Another AMAZING Bright Ideas blog hop. I sure hope you've learned some amazing things so far.
Maybe I can help add another fun idea!

I'm going to discuss small group organization today!
Last month, I discussed doing Daily 5/Literacy Studio for the Little Ones. This is a piggyback blog from last month!

Since I have so many amazing parent volunteers, I am able to have TWO small groups in my Daily 5 rotation. One is called Teacher Time (with me) and one is called Skill Drill (with volunteer).

Those are my two groups that are hardest to plan and keep up with, so here is a little fun way that I keep them in order.

My Post-It note system is wonderful. This keeps track of what passages, what games, and what books my kiddos have read. It's also very aesthetically pleasing to a teacher's eye.

Organizing Skill Drill-
I typically do center games that are volunteer led, so I print off some centers, bag them up, and stick them in a tub with a post-it note on them to let my volunteer know which games are for which group.

Organizing Teacher Time-
The folders match the groups!
I do lots of fluency passages, running records, poems, etc. during my TT, so I keep the paperwork in colored folders for each group of kiddos. However, my yellow = my orange group and my purple group just uses blue folders.
(If anyone knows where orange or purple manilla folders are, let me know!)

I am linking up with the amazing Bright Ideas Blog Hop!

And next up on this fun blog hop is Mrs. Hoffer who is blogging all about organizing centers!

  1. Thanks for the new idea. I am always looking for new ideas.

  2. I picked up purple folders at Staples a couple years ago. Not sure if they still have them, but I bought a box of 100 when I was making file folder games. I made all the LA games on purple folders and all the math games on good old "plain" colored ones.

  7. I purchased file folders at Staples about 6 months ago. The box I chose had purple, teal, dark blue, gray, and maroon. A little pricey but watch for the sales. I got 2 boxes for the price of one!!!

  8. is there a printable version of the planning sheets/template shown in the post ; " teacher time" and "skill drills" would love to use to get organized.
