Changing Plans!

I have decided to change up a few things in my classroom.
My Reading Block currently consists of Reading Workshop, Centers (4 a day), and Writer's Workshop. But I just haven't felt truly in my element yet this year. Last year, with Daily 5, I fell in love with it. So, I'm bringing it back and I'm so excited!

Little steps...
Setting up my bulletin board starts first!

This board right here used to be my Bucket Fillers board, but I'm changing it!

Last year, I kept Daily 5 exactly the way suggested: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing, Word Work, and Listen to Reading.

This year, I'm going to change it up!
*Read to Someone/Read to Self every other day
*Skill Drill (this is where my volunteer moms will help)
*Teacher Time (small group)
*Technology
*Word Work

This was the mess beforehand.
Anyone else's classroom look like this right now!?

And on a side note, this is what I had to drive home in. It was miserable!

Check back for more updates on how I'm changing my classroom!

  1. We are *supposed* to go back Monday! We are expecting a good snow and frigid temps! My classroom looks like a disaster because the janitors do deep cleaning in the rooms. We nearly have to pack up!! Anyways, I have got to go fix my classroom and I am changing a few things too. :) Look forward to following along with your changes.

  2. Hello- I am just trying out the Daily 5 this year with my third grade class. I feel lost. How long are the students doing each activity? What is the accountability for reading to someone? Do you have any helpful suggestions for me? Thanks!!!

  3. I love Daily 5. It took me a while to get it going in my classroom this year because our district decided to dictate our decoding and reading time. I was not a happy camper. I don't need people telling me word for word how to teach my students. It took some talking to with my new principal because I moved school and I finally got the okay to do it and he would check in to see how things were going. My students are rocking with their reading. Our AIMSWEB scores were amazing. Most of my students improved their fluency by +40 words per minute. Very exciting! Can't wait to hear how it goes in your classroom.
