Reviewing 2 Digit Addition with Math Centers

We have a huge test tomorrow!!
We spent today reviewing double digit addition with my centers pack.
I think it helped every one of my children truly understand because they had 7 opportunities to practice in a small group.

Indivudal White Board Bags

Setting up indivudal white board bags for students- to help with behavior and classroom management

Markers, white boards, and erasers are a HUGE hassle in my classroom. I was so tired of the 10 minutes it took to pass them out and clean them up. So, I started brainstorming.
I have found the easiest way to deal with dry erase boards is to bag them all up.

You will need:
EXPO Markers
Ziploc Bags (freezer size)
Sock
White Board

Instead of passing out boards, markers, and erasers every single time you're using these bags, why not bag them all up.

My students are quite messy putting their bags back in.
Last year, when I taught Kindergarten, I would put them back in for them and stand each bag up neatly and tidy... but this year, I decided that I didn't feel like doing that two times a day, so I remind students that if they tear these bags up and lose the markers and socks, we won't be buying new ones to fix them up!

Unless your students are ANGELS, you will hear the argument over who gets what color, but I just call up each group and tell them to grab the bag on top.

"You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit!"

Open Library Research Hour

We started flexible library scheduling this quarter and I love it!! We have been a few times for nonfiction books, Destiny catalog introduction, and MLK research.

Using our open library hours to incorporate research in the ELA block- learn how you can tie research into your ELA block

Yesterday, we went to the library to wrap up our sun, moon, heat unit that we did for the last week. Their jobs were to use the Destiny catalog to find nonfiction books about our topics, then use online encyclopedias to find 3 facts about the sun.

O.W.L. Binder Assembly

One of my favorite things I began this year were my OWL Binders. OWL stands for Organized While Learning. Thanks to Pinterest and other blogs, I got started at the beginning of the year and they have become an incredible STAPLE in my daily routine.

The kids are incredibly responsible with these and every single thing I need for parent communication is in one area. I will continue this throughout my teacher career (unless something better comes along), but in all four years of teaching, this is by far the best parent/teacher communication I have had.

Front of binder. The kids loved having their own colored owls. The first day of school all they wanted to do was talk about their colored owl on their O.W.L. binders.

In the front of their binders, we put their homework planners in (which get signed every night).

First things first, we start with our table of contents.

I had to make sure I gave students and parents their responsibilities at the beginning of the year. They signed their "contracts", which students learned was their promise to check it every night and take care of it.

A Few FREE Valentine's Activities

With Daily 5, I have two reading sessions, Read to Self and Read to Someone.
Here is a picture of my current library in my classroom.
To the normal teacher and student, this is a lot of books to choose from. (It sure feels like a lot to me after I've spent all the money on them). However, my students are zooming through these books because they read SO much all the time! During Read to Self and Read to Someone, they are average 2-3 books a day, unless they are working through chapter books.

So, my students are somewhat bored with these books. Since September, I've taken a monthly trip to my public library. They will let you check out 50 books each visit, so I am offering 2+ books extra a week for each kiddo.

Check out my February haul.
Here is the full stack.

A few Valentine's books (of course).

Preparing for Career Day focus at our school in March...

My President's Day unit starts next week, so these will fit perfectly.

My students LOVE leveled readers.

Snow Day Fun

Last Friday and this Monday, I had snow days! This gave me two four day weeks in a row, and while that throws off my lesson plans and messes up my entire schedule,  I sure did love staying in bed to blog and create TPT products!

I am starting to get together my centers and what not for next Thursday! Can you believe it is already here??

GRAB THIS FREEBIE SAMPLE.
It goes along with the clock game in my centers pack, BUT can be used outside of the centers for a review!

Also, a huge hit in my classroom are the comprehension packs. My kiddos love using these for homework, morning work, or read to self/someone activities.

Here is a sample story from the pack. It comes with 5. This one is called "Whose Valentine?"

Here is a sample comprehension page from the pack. This one is from the story "A Valentine For My Brother".

FREEBIE!!

Here is a sample writing sheet...
And grab this freebie writing sheet!! It goes along with 'The Valentine's Baker', but you could use it in a general writing setting!
