A team teacher and I decided that we wanted to do something unique for the end of the year. Our Art funding has been cut tremendously at our district (which I'm sure you're experiencing a similar cut). Our students had one quarter of art because we share our art teacher with our entire district. I thought it would be really fun if we could do something artsy with the kids.
So, we tried it out! And the kids loved it.
Make sure you cut up LOTS of newspaper and tissue paper for the kids.
Kids get their balloons.
Make the flour and hot water paste.
Students dip strips of newspaper into the mixture.
Criss-Cross the newspaper strips around the balloon to interlock them for security.
Allow to dry.
If balloons are dried... use the same paste and get the balloon wet.
*Do not dip the tissue paper into the flour/water mixture because we found it just dissolves.**
Students put tissue paper squares on the wet balloon and use wet fingers to flatten down to the ball.
Allow to dry over night.
Tomorrow, I am turning them into hot air balloons by attaching painted milk cartons to the bottom with string!
